Allie Alvis’ talk about the importance of well-loved books at the New York Antiquarian Book Fair

Allie Alvis is a book historian and educator, communicating the material culture of books as @Book_historia on various social media platforms. They are a rare book cataloguer at Type Punch Matrix in Washington, DC, and are the former special collections reference librarian of the Smithsonian Libraries and Archives. Allie holds a master’s degree from the University of Edinburgh in the History of the Book and a second master’s from the University of Glasgow in Information Management and Digital Preservation. They have published and spoken widely on a variety of topics, including the use of arsenic in bookbindings, the history of bookshelf organization, and the conservation work of Douglas Cockerell and Son.
